After a painful week watching Dave’s health worsen, something amazing has happened. Dave seems to have made a full recovery!
We’re not sure whether to attribute the transformation to patient hand feeding, a course of antibiotics or even a generous dose of poultry tonic but the old Dave is back.
She spent the weekend strutting round the kitchen telling the disgruntled cat who’s boss.
It just goes to show how easy it is to write off a bird too quickly. It’s easy to assume the worse but some loving care can make quite miraculous transformations.
It’s certainly the best Christmas present we could have wished for.

Hi Beth I wonder if you could give me some advice please?
I’m very upset as the last couple of weeks one of my usually happy ex bats is pecking the tail of another very badly. I only have the three hens and they have a fairly large garden to free range in . They re fed well on ex bat crumb, a daily vit sup and fresh food plus treats and evening a small amount of grain so you ll see they are well loved and spoiled I think my husband wishes he was a chicken Ha Ha!
I’ve tried the nettex anti peck spray plus gentian violet but neither put off the naughty pecker! She drew blood badly last week and it was looking like cannibalism so I’ve had no choice but to keep them separated in daytime which is very sad not to mention hard work. I’m wondering if the bumper bits will break the habit or if I should try the Scarper vice spray ? I noticed you used bumper bits and wonder if you had any advice to give.
Thanks for your time and Happy New Year. (I’m so glad Dave recovered) Christine.
