Hi everyone. I am Gillian and I live on an acre and a half in Kent. I started to keep poultry from the moment my mother bought the place, due to an enthusiastic neighbour. She had just bred some lavender Muscovy ducks, and wanted to have some geese, so we got a flock on my land to fatten up for Christmas. It didn’t work. We learned that if you want to produce any poultry for the pot, you have to be prepared to do it all yourself and produce oven ready birds, otherwise you only get a pittance. Also of course, in those days there weren’t the restrictions there are now. Doing anything with birds on a commercial scale entails mases and masses of red tape. SO- we decided to go for ornamentals, and really only as a hobby.
